S809 blades turbulent and transitioning2024-03-20

The S809 is a typical low-speed wind airfoil, a 21% thick laminar airfoil designed by Dan M Somers for turbines, and the low-speed experiment was completed in the low turbulence wind tunnel of the University of Delft in the Netherlands. In the case of low incoming flow turbulence and angle of attack, there is a long laminar flow zone on the upper and lower surfaces, and then the flow transitions into turbulence under the action of the reverse pressure gradient.

Using non-pressurized solver, 4th order precision, about 18 million solution points, 2 GPUs, < 2.5 days to statistical steady state. The transition point of the Dimaxer results is in good agreement with the experimental value, which verifies the ability to simulate the transition flow.
